Rants

Sonny Orzocco says…

“Enemy as a mistake.”

Hmm. Have I made any enemies by mistake? Or is it a mistake to make enemies.

The Big Chill

Some people love fall – the crisp sunny days, the coloured leaves, fresh apples.

For me, the beauty of fall is overshadowed by the spectre of impending cold. Not just the cold outside, but cold everywhere.
My apartment is heated by radiators, that work in a mediocre fashion at the best of times. Hot water circulating through them should generate heat. Except that some days, the water turns cold for no good reason. Or, even better, the water doesn’t get as high as my third floor apartment. So the two floors below are very warm, and I’m holding my hand against the cold metal and praying for heat.
And heaters? The electrical supply in my apartment limited at best – heaters just cause the breakers to blow. This event means I have to find my shoes and keys in the dark, go outside to the street and up the stairs of the building next door, flip the breaker and come back to an underheated apartment.

I can’t work when I’m cold. I don’t like cleaning or organizing with numb fingers. Mostly, I just take hot baths. Maybe go to the local pub to warm up. Oh, and call the landlord – again.

Ah yes, fall. The foreboding cold that will permeate my life until spring. Not a future I’m looking forward to. If I wasn’t trying to pay off some debt, I’d move to a warmer apartment.

I really don’t like being cold.
